The Application of Chinese-English Machine Translation in Cultural Terminology Translation: A Case Study of Homographs and Polysemous Words

Machine translation, through software, automates the translation between languages and is integral for global communication. Challenging issues include language ambiguities, homographs, polysemous words, idioms, and proper nouns. Particularly pressing is the accurate processing of homographs and polysemous words. These challenges necessitate collaboration between linguistics and software professionals. The research emphasizes the role of machine translation in the dissemination of Bashu food culture terminology, primarily during large international sporting events. Awareness of Bashu culture is encouraged in order to preserve Chinese linguistic style and promote cultural understanding. This paper focuses on two tasks: (1) The translation processing of homographs in Chinese-English machine translation, especially applied in cultural terminology translation. (2) The processing of polysemes in Chinese-English machine translation, especially applied in cultural terminology translation.
