Implementation of MPPT Hill Climbing Technique for Forward Based DC-DC Converter

Forward-based dc-dc converter is a suitable solution for PV application for a single PV panel, where the wide input voltage range is required. The selected dc-dcconverter is a non-isolated and a common grounded solution. The additional diode of the selected converter is transferring magnetizing energy from the primary side of transformer to the output capacitor cascade. The Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) was designed for the forward based dc-dcconverter. The output stage contains only diodes, which block reverse current of the dc grid, that is why there is no sense to control the grid current. As a result, a hill climbing MPPT technique was chosen for the closed loop system, where it directly changes the duty cycle to reach a maximum power point. The experimental results with the experimental prototype were shown. The experimental prototype was tested for different commercial solar panels. Efficiency study along with thermal measurements of semiconductor were done.
