Comparative Study of Possible Implementations of the Flexible Power Electronic Interface for Wide-Range High Step-Up Applications in DC Microgrid

This paper investigates the flexible power electronic interface based on two active hybrid bridge cells. Three possible implementations are analyzed and compared in terms of performance: conventional phase shifted dual active bridge (DAB), series resonant converter (SRC), and CLLC converter topologies. The study targets a wide low-voltage input range of 10 V to 60 V for the rated power of 450 W and the switching frequency of 500kHz. Topology morphing control (TMC) is employed to operate the converter in a wide voltage gain range for all the converter embodiments. The comparison results are presented, where the losses and efficiency of these converters are compared for the whole voltage range while operating in different modes. For this purpose, the thermal model of every converter is built using PSIM software with the Thermal Module addon, where actual MOSFET switch parameters from the datasheet are utilized. Similarly, a non-ideal transformer is used to differentiate the performance for transformer conduction losses. Finally, the efficiency and losses of each converter are observed and compared in all modes.
