DC-Ready Flyback-Based Micro-Converter

This article presents a novel concept of a universal flyback-based solar micro-converter that can be applied in both dc and single-phase ac grids through the same terminals. The core idea involves employing identical semiconductors in both the dc-dc and dc-ac configurations, thereby minimizing redundancy. The article explores potential semiconductor stages and provides design considerations, along with control schemes. Experimental prototypes of dc-ready solar micro-converters, based on single-stage and double-stage flyback-based solutions, are showcased and compared. The prototypes are rated for 600 Watts power for connection to both ac and dc grids, and the experimental results illustrate their operational capabilities in ac or dc grids.
