Effect of Post-Annealing on Electrical Parameters of Joints Formed from Conductive Adhesive

The resistance of joints made from electrically conductive adhesives is higher than those made from lead-free solders. Therefore, methods are being sought to increase the conductivity of adhesive joints. One of these methods is post-annealing. The work is focused on monitoring the effect of post-annealing of joints created from two types of conductive adhesives on the resistance and nonlinearity of their volt-ampere characteristics. Considering the curing schedules of the adhesives, annealing was performed at temperatures of 100, 130, and 160 °C. Annealing times were chosen between 10 and 40 minutes in four steps. It was found that the post-annealing technique can reduce the resistance of the adhesive joints but do not reduce the non-linearity of their volt-ampere characteristic. However, this process is only successful if the optimal time and temperature of post-annealing are selected. When using a higher temperature or a longer post-annealing time than they are optimal, the joints degrade, which is reflected in the deterioration of their electrical parameters. If lower values of temperature and time of post-annealing are used, the reduction of the resistance of the adhesive joints is low.
