Extraction of Range and Speed data from A 24 GHz Radar Module

A commercial RADAR module OmniPreSense Module OPS243-C is analyzed for the object's range and speed detection. The experimental results are obtained with a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) plot using MATLAB script. For this, custom scenarios have been made in an anechoic chamber and lab environment. The average range values for the tripod and stand are approximately found at 4.06m and 0.42m in scenario 1, with 7.97% and 95%, respectively, whereas in scenario 2, these are detected at approximately 2.56m and 1.53m, with 7.11% and −15%, respectively. After applying the correction factors of 0.3194 and 0.2571, the average values and percentage errors for scenarios 1 and 2 for range data are reduced. In scenario 3, the speed of a person's movement is detected to vary from 2.3 mps to −2.3 mps for Inbound and Outbound directions, respectively. In scenario 4, variation in the rotating speed of the ceiling fan is observed at various knob positions (0 to 4) and is found to vary from 0.1 mps to 4.9 mps at different knob positions. The maximum deviation in both the speed ranges is found less than 0.5 mps. The corrected estimation of range and speed values will help to analyze Radar outputs for future applications in 24 GHz.
