Study on Field Effect Transistors Based Gas Sensors

Field-effect transistor (FET) gas sensors have garnered heightened interest owing to their compact dimensions, little energy consumption, and seamless integration with CMOS technology. This work reviews the Gas Sensors based on FETs that is used for gas species detection in ambient conditions. Gas sensors utilizing field-effect transistor (FET) gates manipulated by a work function are highly desirable due to their low power consumption, microsystem integration capability, and ability to detect chemically and physically bonded species at ambient temperature. An investigation has been conducted into the sensitivity and stability of various gases, including chloroform, hexane, dichloromethane, isopropanol, and methanol. The alteration of the work function of the conducting gate is used for recognizing various gases when subjected to gas vapors. Utilizing the variation in subthreshold current caused by gas contact, a sensing mechanism has been established.
