Comparative Performance Analysis of Peak to Average Power Ratio in OFDM, SLM and PTS Systems

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is one of the widely used schemes in communication due to the fact that it has low complexity, higher spectral efficiency, and many other advantages over other modulation schemes. However, the peak-to-average-power ratio (PAPR) issue of OFDM is one of the main disadvantages of this scheme that is making it not suitable for future use in mission-critical devices or other applications. Therefore, to resolve this issue, we propose to discuss the comparison of selective mapping (SLM) and partial transmit sequences (PTS) when they are implemented on an OFDM system. We discuss the complexity of the OFDM system with the SLM and PTS when the number of sub carriers and modulation orders are changed. The simulation results show that the SLM and PTS systems achieve a reduction of the values of the PAPR in the OFDM system regardless of the number of subcarriers and modulation order.
