Zinc-Oxide Nanofiber and Green Synthesized Silver Nanoparticle Based Enzymatic Chemiresistive Sensor for Glucose Detection

In this study, we present a new enzymatic glucose sensing platform made of a hybrid nanocomposite of zinc oxide (ZnO), glucose oxidase (Gox), and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) that were made in an environmentally friendly way. The high surface area and superior electron transport characteristics of the ZnO nanoparticles contribute to improved enzyme immobilization and effective electron transfer during the enzymatic reaction. Glucose oxidase, which is attached to the ZnO surface, converts glucose into gluconic acid and hydrogen peroxide. This produces a measurable change in electrical resistance. Adding silver nanoparticles makes the sensor more effective and provides catalytic action. This combination aims to improve glucose sensors by utilizing the enzyme's catalytic ability, as well as the unique properties of ZnO and silver nanoparticles working together. The green synthesized AgNPs were synthesized through a facile and cost-effective green synthesis method, ensuring a non-toxic, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly sensor for biomedical applications.
