An Intelligent Power Management System for Energy Saving

A smart power-saving system was constructed based on Internet of Things (IoT) technology to address energy waste in university classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and public office areas. The system adopts the STM32F1 microcontroller, HC-SR501 infrared sensors, and V831 video detection modules to monitor occupancy. Various sensors are used in control terminals. Through bidirectional communication, the system enables remote control of circuit switches in the target area. Offline terminal devices are installed above target areas or entrances. Infrared sensors and video modules detect room occupancy, transmitting data to the control platform and forwarding it to the cloud server and intelligent circuit breaker. The cloud server provides power usage feedback to a visualization platform, while the circuit breaker manages local circuits, enabling intelligent control. This system controls and manages in real-time, and effectively reduces energy consumption by turning off power when rooms are unoccupied. The application of the system in a classroom at Guilin University of Electronic Technology demonstrated a 30.28% reduction in power consumption in normal operation.
