Accelerating Multicellular Molecular Communication Simulations Using Barnes-Hut Algorithm

We present the design and implementation of an efficient algorithm, the Barnes-Hut algorithm, to accelerate multicellular molecular communication simulations in this article. The Barnes-Hut algorithm groups distant cells together and treats them as a unified cell positioned at the center of mass of the cell group, thereby reducing computational costs in simulations. We incorporated the Barnes-Hut algorithm in multicellular molecular communication simulations and showed that the Barnes-Hut algorithm reduces computational costs while maintaining accuracy in comparison to existing algorithms.
