Improving Reliability and Performance of Smart Energy Meters in Complex Electromagnetic Environment

We studied how to improve the reliability and performance of smart energy meters in complex electromagnetic environments to solve the pervasive problems of electromagnetic interference (EMI) in urban and rural areas. We propose solutions blending hardware and software techniques. The effectiveness of the solutions in mitigating EMI effects was validated. Using adaptive algorithms, the operational integrity of smart meters was achieved. The results can be used to advance smart grid technologies for efficient energy management and mitigate environmental impacts.
