Comprehensive Inertial Control of Clustered Wind Farms Considering the Wake Effect

The growing wind power industry has intensified the pressure for frequency regulation. So, a comprehensive inertial control strategy of wind farm clustering is proposed to overcome the challenge of uneven wind speed distribution caused by the wake effect, which hinders the precise execution of comprehensive inertial control by a single-machine equivalent model of a wind farm. The proposed strategy is clustering the units based on their similar frequency regulation capabilities, where the frequency regulation ability factor is defined as the clustering index. The units are dynamically clustered utilizing a clustering algorithm. A comprehensive inertial control loop is then established, utilizing system frequency deviation and rate of change of system frequency as inputs, and inertia control proportion and differential coefficients as outputs. Ultimately, this approach achieves comprehensive inertial control for wind farm clustering. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed clustering indicator. The established multi-machine equiv. alert model of the wind farm precisely represents the frequency regulation capabilities of each unit cluster. The proposed comprehensive inertial control strategy for wind farm clustering offers enhanced inertia support.
