Temporary Overvoltage Mechanism Analysis of Renewable Energy

In recent years, as China's share of renewable energy installations rises, the impact of temporary overvoltage on the stability and safety of the power system grows, and overvoltage-related accidents happen occasionally. Therefore, verifying the safety of temporary overvoltage is a prerequisite to maintaining the system's normal operation, and simulation technology is a valuable tool for determining whether it can meet the power grid's voltage stability requirements, in which the electromagnetic transient simulation is able to precisely depict the voltage's immediate value, the electromagnetic transient simulation may model each system component's dynamic reaction. In light of this, this paper examines the control structure of the VSC electromagnetic model, analyzes the characteristics of the transient response, and divides the renewable energy fault response under the perspective of temporary overvoltage into four phases based on the switching logic of the main circuit and the control loop. These analyses serve as references for evaluating the safety and stability of the temporary overvoltage.
