Self-Adaptive Reconfigurable DC-DC Charging Stack for Electric Vehicle Fast Charging Stations

There is a growing demand for electric vehicle (EV) fast charging. To meet the peak power, traditional charging piles integrate multiple DC-DC power modules, which are typically operated through fixed connections or parallel casting. However, the power has a large fluctuation range, leading to low module capacity utilization. The limited voltage regulation range of a single module makes it challenging to be compatible with EVs from different voltage platforms. If depending on the voltage regulation capability of a single module to adjust the charging voltage, the efficiency will be low due to voltage mismatch. A reconfigurable DC-DC charging stack is designed for EV fast charging stations to address the above issues. This is achieved by configuring a large number of power modules inside the container. The number of modules is self-adaptively allocated and the series-parallel connection between them is reconfigured based on the power, voltage, and current requirements of the EV connected to the charging gun. This ensures compatibility with the different power requirements of different voltage level EVs.
