Sliding Mode Observer Based Predictive Sensorless Control for CSI-Fed PMSM Drives

Current-source inverter (CSI) has many advantages in electric drive systems and is suitable for many scenarios such as long cable drive and medium voltage drive. Due to the connection of filter capacitors on the output side of the inverter, the CSI can not only obtain voltage and current waveforms with smaller high-frequency harmonic components, but also allows direct measurement of motor stator voltage. These are advantageous for implementing model based sensorless control algorithms in permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) control system. Sliding mode observer (SMO) is a model based algorithm, which has advantages of fast response and strong robustness. Based on the above, this paper applies an SMO algorithm to model predictive control (MPC) for CSI-fed PMSM drives, and the proposed control strategy will be validated through simulation model.
