Common Mode Voltage Suppression of Current Source Inverter for PMSM Drives

The current source inverter (CSI) has many advantages in electric drive systems and is suitable for many scenarios such as long cable drive and medium voltage drive. But the common mode voltage (CMV) generated by CSI can cause shaft voltage in the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). To mitigate the effects of CMV, this paper proposes Multiple Active Zero Pulse Width Modulation (MAZPWM) as an alternative to Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM). Compared with SVPWM, MAZPWM utilizes multiple nonzero vectors for modulation instead of zero vectors, effectively reducing the CMV of the CSI and subsequently attenuating the shaft voltage of the PMSM.
