Operation Strategy for Nuclear Power Plants with Electric Heat Storage in the Electricity Market Environment

With the increasingly severe peaking pressure brought about by the high proportion of nuclear power grid integration, the flexibility and economy of nuclear power participation in peaking have received more and more attention. In view of the realistic need for nuclear power to participate in grid peaking, the nuclear peaking strategy will affect the stability of grid operation. This paper combines the operational characteristics of nuclear power units to carry out research on the operational strategies of nuclear power plants in the power market environment. On the assumption that the full power operation of nuclear power is guaranteed, it is proposed to participate in power grid by adding electric thermal storage in the nuclear power plant. The optimization model of nuclear power participation in grid peaking is established by taking the maximum revenue of nuclear power plant as the objective function. The examples demonstrate that this scheme fully utilizes the flexibility and economy of nuclear power plant operation.
