Multi-Person Respiration Monitoring During Sleep

In this study, a new method for tracking the respiration rates of multiple persons during sleep is proposed. In this method, radio-frequency (RF) signals are used and a high-resolution subspace-based Min-Norm approach for respiration rate estimation is applied for the first time. Software-defined radio modules are used as RF transmitter and receiver pairs. It is shown in the experiments conducted with real measurements that the Min-Norm method performs high accurate respiration rate estimates for a limited number of data in different lying positions. It is also shown that the Min-Norm method is superior to the classical Periodogram method in resolving the close respiration frequencies of two people in the same environment.
