Quality of Service Support for a 5G Network UPF Module: Software Implementation and Realistic Evaluation

The User Plane Function (UPF) Module in 5G Architecture is a gateway that transmits packets between the Mobile Network and the Internet according to rules that are defined for each flow. In this paper, we present the implementation and performance evaluation of flow-based QoS enforcement rules for a software UPF implementation. Our implementation can provide per-flow Quality of Service (QoS) support at Gbps speeds for more than 40000 flows.
