Performance Evaluation of 5G RAN Slicing in terms of Physical Resource Usage

In fifth generation (5G) and beyond communication systems, it is estimated that as the number of devices connected to the network increases, users in the system will need different bandwidth and delay. It is known that better Quality of Service (QoS) can be achieved by creating isolated Network Slices with virtualization and cloud technologies that have developed in recent years. Although network slicing is somewhat easier to implement on the core network side, network slicing on the Radio Access Network (RAN) side is quite complex. In this study, the applicability of RAN network slicing in the current architecture was examined in terms of network slice-QoS relationship, network slice-bandwidth and network slice-numerology relationship, according to the data rate and delay parameters in the system. The performance of 5G RAN network slicing was analyzed in terms of physical resource usage according to QoS type, bandwidth and numerology. It has been shown through simulation results that the physical resource block must be managed dynamically with network slice-aware architectures in order to ensure guaranteed service quality.
