Performance Analysis of a 5 kW Photovoltaic Installation for Water Pumping in Rural Areas in Yemen

This article focuses on the issue of water scarcity in the rural areas of Al-Hudaydah City in Yemen, exacerbated by power shortage and the high cost of diesel for generators. The study proposes a solution in the form of a Solar Photovoltaic Water Pumping System (SPVWPS) sized and designed by PVSyst 7.4. This system aims to provide a sustainable and cost-effective method for extracting water from wells to meet the daily needs of the local population to serve approximately 200 families living in nearby villages. The annual amount of water pumped is 27728, the water used is 27702 almost equal to each other with only 0.02% of insufficient water and the system overall efficiency is 74.4%. After accounting for all losses, the operating electrical energy at the pump is available to meet the user’s water needs. The SPVWPS is particularly beneficial in these rural areas where income levels are low and reliance on expensive diesel is not feasible. The implementation of this system signifies a crucial step towards optimal utilization of water and energy resources, a matter of increasing importance for the future.
