Development of an IoT-Based System for Recovery of Potential-Induced Degradation in PV Strings

Different types of degradations of photovoltaic modules are known to significantly reduce their energy production. In this study is presented an IoT-based system for automatic regeneration of potential-induced degradation (PID), which is based on the string reconfiguration approach. A general architecture of the system is presented as well as an operation algorithm of the IoT modules, describing their behavior. Next, hardware components were selected for implementation of the system and a circuit schematic was created. The developed IoT-based system could be used for automatic compensation of PID in photovoltaic installations. Such approach could lead to significant improvement of the revenue during their long-term exploitation.
