On the Analysis of Power Chain and Dynamics of Electric Cars

The paper deals with an effective approach for an optimal design of battery operated electric vehicles with single powered axle. It has been conceived as a complex tool for time-domain analysis of the whole power chain from the battery to the wheels and the related control loops for various operation conditions: acceleration, deceleration with regenerative braking, constant speed on flat road, slope or ramp. A model has been achieved and proven using the available technical specifications of a real-life mass production electric car with permanent magnet synchronous motor driven by a power inverter with vector control strategy. The results of interest are mainly the dynamic performances, the flow of powers from battery to the wheels and vice-versa and other relevant electric quantities. Some results are compared with the technical data specified by the manufacturer to prove the quality of the proposed analysis tool.
