Study of the Presence of Pulse Width Modulated Flicker of the LED Display Backlight

The most fundamental weakness of the LCD displays is the flickering of their backlight as a result of pulse width modulation used to manage the brightness. For most users this causes migraines, fatigue or milder forms of discomfort during longer work in front of the display. The reason for this is the backlight flashing with a frequency between $100 \div 700 \mathrm{~Hz}$, which causes numerous contractions and expansions of the pupils of the human eyes. This frequency should not be confused with the refresh rate of the screen. Especially harmful is the flickering of the LED displays, which are not inert and affect the vision much more aggressively. The paper presents a convenient method for studying the backlight flicker on displays without having to disassemble them.
