Results from the Application of a Remote Photovoltaic Lab in STEM Education

This study presents the results of a STEM-based education with binary lessons in the subjects “Physics and astronomy” and “Informatics” in a Bulgarian high school. It relies on a previously developed remote Arduino-based photovoltaic laboratory. A curriculum was developed, that consists of 5 topics, 2h each. It covers different parts of the two subjects, such as Ohm’s law, measuring voltage and current, measurement errors, renewable energy sources, working with Arduino, wireless communication, Internet of Things. A survey was conducted among the students after the implementation of the binary lessons. It showed that this approach had a positive impact on their motivation, interest in the subjects and ability to gain knowledge. It also showed that some of the students experience problems with some of the topics, which should allow to tune them up in the future.
