An Ultra-Low Phase Noise Substrate-Integrated-Waveguide Oscillator

This paper proposes an ultra-low phase noise negative-resistance substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) oscillator. The SIW bandstop filter, which offers a high unloaded quality factor
$(Q_{u})$
with selective stopband response, is used, resulting in an ultra-low phase noise for the proposed SIW oscillator. The SIW oscillator operates at 4.092 GHz with an output power of 9 dBm. The measured phase noises are -137.6 dBc/Hz@100 kHz and -159.85 dBc/Hz@1MHz. The figure-of-merits (FOMs) are -213.72 dBc/Hz and -216 dBc/Hz at 1 kHz and MHz offset, respectively. The state-of-the-art phase noise performance of proposed SIW oscillator is measured compared with those of all the reported planar oscillators.
