Combined Gradient and RF Injection Tests for MR Safety

One of the primary concerns regarding Active Implantable Medical Devices (AIMDs) inside human body during MRI scans is the device's ability to withstand the total induced energy from an MRI system. Ensuring the safety of AIMDs involves conducting both RF and gradient injection tests to comprehend the behaviour of the Device Under Test (DUT). However, these tests are performed individually the ISO10974 standard, whereas in real scenarios, AIMDs face both RF and gradient pulses simultaneously. In this paper, a combined circuit for simultaneous RF and gradient injection test is proposed. This circuit can perform each test separately or simultaneously. The performance of the design was tested in different RF/gradient pulse combinations on an implantable device.
