Comparing Performance of Ultrasonic type and Magnetic Type Flowmeters for Desalination Applications

This research paper presents a comprehensive comparison of the performance of two flowmeters, one ultrasonic and one magnetic type, commonly used in desalination applications. By examining the official specifications sheets, performance metrics, and conducting simulations of both sensor models, however, designers can make decisions regarding the selection of flow meters. The comparative analysis focuses on benchmark data, performance evaluation, and simulation results. Utilizing various evaluation metrics, such as accuracy, repeatability, response time, and linearity, and discussing the effectiveness of each sensor in accurately measuring and monitoring flow rates within the challenging operational environment of desalination plants. Furthermore, by simulating the sensor models, additional data is obtained to compare their performance under various operating conditions. The simulation results enable a detailed analysis of parameters such as signal-to-noise ratio, rangeability, and sensitivity, offering a comprehensive understanding of each sensor's capabilities and limitations.
