Control of CSTR Using Active Disturbance Rejection Control and Model Predictive Control

This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of Active Disturbance Rejection Control (ADRC) and Model Predictive Control (MPC) techniques in regulating a continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) with multiple inputs and outputs. Specifically, the focus is on assessing the temperature stability of the reactor under these control strategies. Through extensive simulations, it is noted that the ADRC controller outperforms the MPC controller in maintaining temperature stability within the CSTR. The ADRC controller demonstrates exceptional disturbance rejection capabilities, effectively preserving the desired temperature setpoint. Consequently, it is ascertained that the ADRC controller is the preferable option for this reactor, as it offers enhanced control performance and improved stability. The implementation of the ADRC controller presents an opportunity to optimize the operation of the CSTR and achieve superior temperature control precision.
