A Comparative Study of MPLS Layer 2 and Layer 3 VPNs

Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) have emerged as a promising alternative to traditional Wide Area Networks (WANs) due to their ability to enhance performance and scalability. MPLS VPNs provide a secure and efficient way to connect geographically dispersed sites and offer several advantages. MPLS VPN Layer 2 and Layer 3 are two different types of MPLS-based VPNs that offer distinct advantages. In this paper we study and comparing the convergence time, packet loss, and throughput of MPLS VPN Layer 2 and Layer 3. Eve simulation and wireshark were used to acquire the results.
