Fast Triggering Time Determination of a Vehicular Electronic Fuse’s Wire Protection Algorithm

Autonomous driving functions require selective fuse triggering in case of failure currents. Electronic fuses use an algorithm based wire protection. Using different algorithms and sampling times can lead to selectivity violations. For fast selectivity analysis an analytic methodology for triggering time determination of a Cauer model based algorithm in case of a non-constant current profile is presented. The analytic methodology is verified by comparing the results with those of the discretized algorithm. In addition, an analysis of the computing time shows that the analytic methodology is computationally efficient compared to the discretized algorithm. In one examined case, the computing time of the analytic methodology was only 0.014% of that of the discretized algorithm. Thus, the methodology can be used for fast selectivity investigations.
