Pre-design of Switched Reluctance Motor Applied to Electric Tractor

This work aims primarily to contribute to the penetration of switched reluctance motors in the agricultural machinery market. A design methodology for a 12/8 three-phase switched reluctance motor intended for the application of fully electric tractors is presented. Initially, the rated specifications of the switched reluctance motor are determined so that a tractor can be operated in an agricultural driving cycle in three defined operating modes: plowing, towing, and seeding. A parametric analysis of current density and specific electrical load on average torque, bus voltage, torque density, and efficiency is implemented. The results show how current density and specific electrical loading affect the machine’s performance and can assist in selecting appropriate geometric dimensions whose envelope conforms to the desired rated envelope.
