Optimization Methods of Axial Flux Machines Using 2D Finite Element Analysis

This paper presents an innovative approach for optimizing axial flux machines (AFMs), which is particularly challenging due to the intricate 3D electromagnetic structure of AFMs. To tackle this complexity, the paper introduces the application of a linear motor model (LMM) technique. By employing this methodology, computational efficiency is significantly improved, enabling the simultaneous exploration of both topology and parametric optimization without using High performance computing. The primary objective of this study is to compare the effectiveness of both topology and parametric optimization, providing a robust framework for designing high-performance AFMs based on 2D FEA simulations.
