Exploring the Frontier: Hybrid Solid-State Batteries Manufacturing and Lifespan Investigation

Solid-state batteries (SSBs) are among the most popular topics in the energy storage system industry. The use of diverse solid-state electrolytes (SSEs) significantly influences the performance and outcome of these batteries. This paper aims to provide a comparative analysis of SSBs employing both oxide and sulfide SSEs, exploring the potential of integrating these SSEs within a hybrid cell. The study applies various battery characterization techniques across multiple stages of battery development, from all-solid-state laboratory research and development cells to commercialized coin and pouch cells. These cells were tested under various conditions, including varying external pressures (100MPa-0MPa) and charging rates, from their initial charge to the end of their operational lifespan. The paper also delves into enhancements in cell design and proposes future research directions supported by experimental data and comprehensive literature reviews.
