LQR control design for virtual inertia of new energy: A GA-assisted design method

With the increasing proportion of new energy generation in the power grid, the inertia level and anti-interference ability of the power grid have been affected to a certain extent. New energy generation (wind power, solar power, energy storage) does not have inertia like traditional synchronous machine generation. Essentially, these new energy generation methods do not have inertia, which can lead to a decrease in the inertia level of the power grid system, thereby affecting the stability of the system. However, if a certain virtual inertia control strategy is added to new energy generation, they will also provide a certain amount of inertia for the system, just like traditional synchronous machines. This article mainly studies the new energy virtual inertia control strategy based on the LQR algorithm. By studying the dynamic characteristics of virtual synchronous machines, quantitative expressions for inertia parameters and system frequency response characteristics are obtained. On the other hand, genetic algorithm is introduced to optimize the parameters of LQR control algorithm, hoping to achieve better control effect. Finally, at the end of this article, the benefits and practicality of the proposed control method were verified through simulation experiments.
