Design of A Smart Safety Helmet Incorporating Observation, Communication and Localization Functions

Currently, vessels traversing China’s inland waterways and open seas face obstacles due to restricted visibility resulting from foggy conditions and diminished sight during nighttime hours. Consequently, this study presents the design of an intelligent safety helmet equipped with observation, communication and localization functions. The system integrates microlight night vision devices with augmented reality technology to achieve high-definition visual imaging. Additionally, to enhance visual imaging quality in low visibility environments such as foggy, rainy, and snowy conditions, the system utilizes a convolutional neural network for image enhancement. The aforementioned aspects are able to augment seafarer’s observational acumen in foggy and nocturnal environments, consequently refining the efficacy of vessel ingress and egress at ports while concurrently bolstering navigational safety. The positioning and communication module is designed to meet the crew’s requirements for precise positioning and real-time communication. The overall system design incorporates lightweight, waterproof and dustproof materials, making it suitable for marine environments, offering high portability and user-friendliness, thus effectively ensuring the safety and operational efficiency of the crew.
