SVM and Predictive Torque Control Strategies of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor via an Indirect Matrix Converter

This paper details the static and the dynamic performance of the various quantities produced by a three-phase permanent magnetic synchronous motor (PMSM) feeding by an electrical grid via an indirect matrix converter (IMC). The IMC is controlled by a combined strategy. A space vector modulation (SVM) is used to drive the rectifier stage on the grid side and a predictive torque control is used to drive the inverter stage on the three-phase PMSM motor side. The essential objective of the studied system adopted a strategy to control the PMSM motor electromagnetic torque using the predictive torque control (PTC) to reduce its ripples. For the reactive power (or direct component current) absorbed by the motor, it is kept equal to zero. The quadrature component current is proportional to the torque and allows controlling the motor torque. The control technique adopted for the variable electric drive speed system incorporating the IMC is confirmed by simulations under “Matlab/Simulink” software. Simulation results confirm that the system's dynamic responses perform better, demonstrating the effectiveness strategy proposed.
