Sliding Mode Observers for Road Profile Estimation: Application to Half Car

Sliding mode control is a nonlinear method in control systems, adjusts the dynamics of a nonlinear system by using a discontinuous control signal to guide the system along a specific path within its normal behavior. This control technique can also be employed in developing state observers. This paper presents the development of sliding mode observers for estimating road profile inputs of a half vehicle. The method utilizes sliding mode observers to estimate various vehicle states (such as positions, velocities, accelerations, and the road profile) within a finite time period. Simulation results are included to illustrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed approach.
