Enhancing Autonomous Driving Systems through ROS2 and AWS Cloud: V2I Interaction and HPC Data Processing

The automotive industry is undergoing a significant shift towards software-defined computing to meet the evolving demands of technology and the increasing complexity of software systems. This transition is giving rise to innovations such as Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs), which aim to enhance safety and convenience features, relying on technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and Robot Operating System2 (ROS2) for autonomous driving research. To effectively manage the growing amount of software in vehicles, strategies such as partitioned processing and infrastructure utilization are being proposed to optimize High-Performance Computing (HPC) usage and ensure reliable real-time data processing while minimizing resource consumption. In this paper, we propose a system that utilizes infrastructure to reduce the services to be handled by HPC to meet the SDV research trend and builds a pipeline to manage and deploy application Software. To demonstrate the proposed system, we utilized ROS2, Docker technology, and continuous integration and continuous delivery/continuous deployment (CI/CD) deployment for Over-The-Air (OTA).
