An Event-driven Modeling and Simulation Approach for Power Electronics Systems with Multiphysics Components

As power electronics technology advances and develops deeper integration across various fields, the integration of electrical systems with other physical domains becomes increasingly compact. This trend necessitates a shift in simulation and optimization design from single electric circuits to multiphysics systems. Given the continuous-discrete hybrid nature of power electronics, the discrete state event-driven (DSED) simulation method has been proposed as a means to improve simulation efficiency. However, the DSED method can only solve power electronics systems with electric and control elements. A methodology supporting power electronics systems with multiphysics components (e.g. mechanical, thermal, fluid, etc.) within the DSED framework, has yet to be established. Consequently, this paper is dedicated to extending the DSED algorithm to encompass multiphysics systems. Drawing upon the principle of energy consistency and generalized Kirchhoff’s laws, it employs analog and behavioral models for multiphysics system modeling. The connection interfaces based on controlled components are clarified and the event definitions and simulation procedure are elucidated. The simulation of an electric vehicle scenario verifies the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed approach.
