Review of Energy Management Strategies of Solar Photovoltaic Energy Systems for Grid-Connected and Standalone Applications

Solar photovoltaics (PV) is a clean and sustainable renewable energy source and an easy-to-accept technology with low cost. Battery energy storage can be leveraged to mitigate the uncertainty and intermittency associated with photovoltaic generation. Therefore, PV-battery energy systems have become a typical technical solution for photovoltaic power generation applications. This study reviews the energy management strategies of PV-battery energy systems, which are applied to the standalone refrigeration equipment, grid-connected home energy system, standalone home energy system, grid-connected energy system, grid-connected EV charging system., standalone DC system., and standalone water pumping. Moreover, the topologies and power flow of energy systems in various applications are analyzed. Therefore, this study is very helpful for a comprehensive understanding of energy management strategies and architectures of PV-battery energy systems.
