An RF Front-End Module Using Transmission Line Impedance Matching Technique

This paper presents a radio-frequency front end (RFFE) module that consists of radio-frequency (RF) switches and surface acoustic wave (SAW) filters using spiral inductors as impedance matching component, which is used for mobile communication system. A model of spiral inductors on the substrate that could modify inductance and parasitic capacitance of the spiral inductors to the target value has been developed for tuning the module. Compared with EM simulator for performance fine tuning, this method adopts the strip line model for fast designing. The total size of the module is 3.2 mm × 3.0 mm × 0.65 mm. Measured results of the proposed module show a good agreement between simulation results. The maximum insert loss of the Band 7 is 2.05 dB, which is lower than the total insert loss of the SAW filter and the RF switch.
