A Novel Dual-Band Programmable Reflectarray Antenna Unit Cell

In this paper, a novel dual-band dual-linearly polarized programmable reflectarray antenna (PRA) unit cell is proposed. The unit cell has a 2-bit reflection phase correction for u-polarized operation mode near 5 GHz and a 1-bit reflection phase correction for v-polarized operation mode near 4.15 GHz. Two pairs of p-i-n diodes are welded along the u- and v-axis, respectively. The phase correction for dual-polarized waves is realized by switching the on-off states of the p-i-n diodes. In all operation states, the reflection loss of the proposed unit cell is less than 2 dB, while the cross-polarization level is less than -60 dB. The proposed unit cell has the advantages of simple structure, high polarization purity and dual-band dual-polarized shared aperture, which has potential application in wireless communication.
