Differential Encoding Scheme for Low Variation Data Suitable for WSNs

There are various digital encoding schemes like PCM, DPCM, Delta and Adaptive delta. All of these techniques reduce the redundancies in one way or the other. The proposed Differential Encoding scheme (DES) is an enhanced version of DPCM which overcomes the redundancy and gives a better compression ratio especially for low variation data. The proposed scheme is a very simple approach that is not so resource intensive and hence finds application with any constrained Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) or Ad-hoc network. Here we have chosen a sample size of fifty temperature readings on which the proposed DES scheme would be applied. The output of this scheme helps in reducing the size of data to be transmitted in any WSN based data routing or Ad-hoc network-based data routing applications. Similarly, the proposed differential encoding scheme can be used for optimizing the input data for other compression algorithms.
