Optimal Capacitor Location in Radial Distribution Network to Improve Voltage Profile

The aim of this study was to enhance voltage profiles within radial distribution networks by strategically situating capacitors. The proposed approach integrates Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) with Backward-forward sweep analysis utilizing the Loss-Sensitive Index (LSI). The investigation encompasses two distinct radial distribution networks consisting of 15, 33 buses respectively. A detailed power flow analysis through the Backward-forward sweep offers valuable insights into the network's behavior. The fusion of LSI and PSO aids in pinpointing optimal locations for capacitor placement. The main objectives include minimizing losses and enhancing the voltage profile across the distribution network. This study provides a detailed examination of capacitor optimisation for a range of radial distribution networks, showing the effectiveness of the suggested method in these scenarios.
