Modelling and Simulation of Power Electronics Converter for Fast Charging in Electric Vehicles

Electric vehicles are a boon to the transportation sector, as it offers a clean and noiseless source of commute. EV's are becoming popular these days because of the several advantages it offers against conventional IC engines. As the popularity of electric vehicles are increasing so is the demand for charging stations that would charge the battery in an electric vehicle. In this paper a converter topology consisting of a Vienna rectifier and PFC controller is proposed for charging electric vehicles. The proposed converter provides several benefits such as improved power factor, reduced THD, small size of filters over conventional three phase rectifiers. Therefore the aforementioned converter bypasses the constraints of on-board chargers and can be used for DC fast charging of electric vehicles.
