Improved Adaptive Retinex Variational Mechanism

The major problems of underwater images are fuzz, under-exposure, color distortion because the light travels into deep ocean undergoes refraction, absorption and scattering. In this paper, we have developed two methods and they are: Adaptive retinal mechanism and Improved retinex enhancement. In both the methods we have used several processes to avoid the noise and distortion of the image. The results of both the methods are compared and the histograms are also drawn for each stage of the process. Then, the final output image obtained is enhanced in terms of color details, corrections, naturalness preservation and well defined edges.
