Research on Toroidal Propeller Driven by Air Ion Mechanics

The article presents a preliminary study of a toroidal propeller driven using air ion mechanics. The key component of the propulsion system is high-voltage electrodes that take the form of a small-diameter wire. The propeller uses a cylinder-airfoil electrode arrangement. The emitter electrodes are cylindrical in shape. An inverted approach involves the use of additional NACA 0024 airfoil-shaped blades in the toroidal propeller acting as a collector electrode. In the course of the study, two-dimensional EAD simulations of a single propeller section were prepared and the physical model was subjected to experimental tests. The results so far show a maximum rotational velocity of the toroidal propeller of 150 rpm at 20 kV. The maximum electrical power reached 1.38 W.
