Integration of PBL and FET: An Innovative Model for Mechanics Courses Aimed at Stimulating Students' Discussion

A major challenge in implementing Problem-based Learning (PBL) is the lack of materials to support student discussion, communication, analysis, and problem-solving, especially in conceptual and mathematically intensive subjects like mechanics. Without such resources, students have difficulty fully engaging in the PBL process, resulting in suboptimal learning outcomes. To obtain effective materials and facilitate student discussions, this study proposes utilizing Finite Element Technology (FET) to generate digital resources represented by Mises stress nephograms through modeling and numerical calculation. A large number of visual materials was obtained. Subsequently, we developed Problem-discussion Cards (PDCs) based on these materials and applied them in classroom teaching.
